Renaissance?

Here it is: my first shoot of the new year. I have been dressing extremely casually lately. It has been nice to leave my crazy shoes in the closet, and toss on whatever feels comfortable.

I feel as though a year ago I would have thought to myself, "Jackie...what are you thinking doing a shoot in a pair of jeans, a sweater, and a plain jacket?". Now, really I wouldn't label such an outfit as "plain". There's something so personal about the way in which each person styles what they wear. Here I have slightly tucked my jeans into my boots, added an over-sized element with my sweater, and tossed on my Veda Max leather jacket (my number one staple the past few months) to contrast the length and size of my sweater. To finish everything off I added my grandmother's jewelry. When she was still alive, she worked for the Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Almost all of her jewelry consists of old pieces from various First Nation tribes. My personal favorite is her squash blossom necklace (the necklace with different animal figures), which is said to carry the spirit of anyone who touches it. With such a sense of thought, detail, styling, and personal history I don't think any such outfit can be labeled as "plain".

The truth is as my style has evolved, I try less to be noticed, and I search more for the types of pieces I want to live in. Getting dressed is about celebrating your individuality--where you come from, and what you have come to. Isn't style about just being yourself and being comfortable with that?

Glamour and Grunge

Gr

Presenting my new Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and a bit of a grunge glam feel. Adrienne and I were out and about in San Francisco one night, and stopped in a random SOMA alley for a spontaneous shoot. I am happy that the pictures came out well, and I'm definitely happy I made it out of this shoot without becoming some kind of Law and Order episode. (DUN DUN!)

Same Pieces, Different Ways

I first got the idea to do a post like this from Alexandra of To Vogue Or Bust. As a student I really don't have lots of extra cash to spend, especially on clothes. Due to this I have not only learned to shop in a smart way, but I also make sure I can restyle things I own in different ways. Here are some of my favorite restyled pieces:

My Marc Jacobs large dot tights are super fun and funky. They add spunk to any outfit and I love wearing them.

I probably wear my denim jacket more than anything else in my wardrobe. In fact I've attempted to put a cap on the number of times I can wear it in a week, but that really didn't work. I guess just really love denim!

I love this Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater. Its kind of like a super comfortable jacket that can still be worn inside. I sometimes even hang out in it when my apartment gets too cold. I figure if I'm too broke to turn on my heater I might as well lounge around in some Marc by Marc Jacobs.

My faux fur jacket from Anthropologie adds a really opulent attitude to any outfit. I really like to throw it on top of anything no matter how dressy or casual a look is.

I can seriously think of four posts this month in which I have been carrying this vintage Coach bag. I dug up older pics though to switch things up. I adore this bag because its not flashy and has a classic vibe to it.

What pieces do you find yourself wearing over and over again?

Parking Ramp

I think one of the best ways to tell whether or not someone has good style is to see the kinds of outfits they put together on the fly. If a person spends hours getting dressed, and doing their hair and make up, of course in most cases they're going to look good. However seeing the looks a person puts together when they're rushed or just trying to be comfortable really shows their true style. This whole look, make up and everything, took me about 15 minutes to do. What kinds of styles are your go-to when you don't have a lot of time to spend getting dressed?
