Advanced Style

Have you ever heard of Advanced Style? I think I may be a little late on finding this site, but I still feel the need to share. Its a blog that chronicles the fabulous style and wardrobes of women over 80. Its kind of amazing!

Aren't these women stylish?! Seriously, these grandmas have got it going on!

20 Feet Tall

Thursdays are always particularly exciting because they mark the beginning of my weekend. This weekend I look forward to blogging, babysitting, and reading Vernon Rosario's Science and Homosexualities. Ok I may be acting a little too optimistic about that last part, but my weekend will definitely be filled with lots and lots of reading. Is it June yet? 

Now for my outfit:

I am seriously in love with this dress I bought from my work, Sway. Since I am so petite I had to have a lot of tailoring done on the piece. Originally it fit much baggier and the neckline was too low. My tailor basically remade the whole dress by taking in the waist, raising the neckline, and tapering the skirt. While the tailoring came out to be almost 3x the actual price of the dress, it made the piece entirely more wearable. While people often think this is crazy, for those who are petite sometimes putting some extra cash into cheaper pieces can really add value to your wardrobe.

I first saw these amazing shoes on Severine from Clothed Chameleon. I have been searching for them for a long time but always missed them in my size. This morning my dear friend Toshiko from It's Not Her, It's Me messaged me saying she had found them in my size on Urban. I immediately went for it. I can't wait for them to get here!

Dream Closet

This past weekend I had the opportunity to explore my friend Paulina's grandmother's closets. Grandma Gen has quite possibly the most amazing clothing collection I have ever seen. From her vast array of Chanel bags to her gorgeous furs, there is seriously no label that this woman does not own. Playing with Grandma Gen's clothes and doing a shoot at her home was honestly one of the most fun experiences of my life!

Denim on Denim

One of my favorite trends of all time is denim on denim. Pulling it off can sometimes be tricky, but it looks effortlessly awesome when done right. I asked a few of my friends to help me break down how to do this trend the right way, here's what they gave me:

What makes each of these denim on denim outfits doable is their casual nature and the fact that the denim is mis-matched. Here is what to avoid:

Denim is a casual material, don't try to dress it up. 

Stick to just a couple pieces that do not match.

Add accessories that contrast to the denim.
